Wedding Day Beauty Tips

Aside from her dress, makeup is one of the most important things a bride can wear on her wedding day. All brides want to look their best on this day more than any other occasion, as the video and pictures taken will be viewed for years to come. Makeup Juliana Landis has some great tips for you and your readers to achieve that stunning look on such the special day.

Before the big day arrives it is very important to research makeup artists at least 3-6 months in advance in order to set up trial run. By doing so a bride can discuss their look/style and scan through magazines to guarantee they get the look they want on their wedding day.

Creating a flawless base that doesn’t look heavy or caked on is essential. To do this, Landis believes a good primer is essential. When preparing a bridal client at her studio, Landis likes to airbrush her clients to give them a flawless red carpet look, using Temptu, as they have a great color range for every skin tone and their silicone base covers all imperfections. Also suggested is the bride should stay away from shimmer powders and bronzers as it doesn’t always photograph well and try to stick with a matte bronzer. To avoid unwanted shine, Landis uses a yellow toned translucent powder concentrating on the forehead, nose and cheek area. The most important step in creating a beautiful “blushing” bride is – blush! A romantic pink color works well on lips and cheeks as beiges and nudes will wash out in the photos, something critical for a bride to avoid! A great color Landis recommends is Nars in Orgasm, it works well will every skin tone and stays put all day and comes in a stick form that the bride can keep with her and re-apply as needed.

Eyes should be as natural as possible to create a classic and timeless look that will remain in style for years to come. Landis likes to use a beige color all over the entire lid, with a taupe color in the crease and a sweep of peach across the lid. This color combination will give the appearance of a no makeup look. To give brides a very natural, pretty look, Landis likes to create a light smokey eye, that always looks great. If the bride has blue or green eyes I like to use natural copper colors with a taupe in the crease for contour, these colors will make the eye color pop. My brown eyed girls look great with deep plums again with taupe in the crease and keeping in mind to blend blend blend. Eyes should be lined with a soft brown pencil, and if needed, individual lashes can be applied to add a more dramatic look. Make sure to use waterproof glue, or better yet – have semi permanent lashes applied by a professional. These will stay put through the wedding day tears all the way through to the end of your honeymoon.

To ensure long lasting lip color, Landis suggests using a lip liner a few shades darker than your natural skin tone and fill in with lipstick applied with a lip brush. This technique will hold much better than lip gloss.

Full Figure

The best route is to not only highlight your best assets, but to tailor it to your figure. Like this David’s Bridal dress, an A-line, empire waistline gown is sophisticated and stylish, but choose your fabric wisely. Make sure it’s gathered in the right areas to accentuate your curves. If you do go for an empire waistline, make sure the waist isn’t too high underneath your bust.

Pear Shaped

A full, A-line wedding dress is the best silhouette for wider hips and narrow shoulders. Try a gathered, asymmetrical waist that will show off your curves in a glamorous way. A V-neckline will flatter your bust and an ordinate sash to draw attention to you mid-area. It’s best to avoid column dresses; they tend to emphasize your hips.

Small Bust

There is nothing wrong with creating a little illusion. You can use this season’s trends of bows and rosettes to add interest to your bust area with empire waistline. If you want an A-line silhouette, keep the bodice loose and consider slight padding to balance out the full skirt.

Boyish Figure

Showing off you best features, such as your legs and tummy are perfect for brides looking to create curves on their wedding day. Embrace this year’s runway trends and opt for a mini or shorter hemline. Sheath, column and A-line silhouettes will unexpectedly show off your best features while creating the appearance of a fuller figure.

Chic Maids

Is your bridal party a mix of sizes and body types? A great option for your bridal party is to do bridal separates that will flatter each body type. You can keep the same color palette and skirt length, but have each bridesmaid decide whether they would like a strapless, V-Neck, halter, blouson, or asymmetrical cut top.

The Sand Ceremony

According to our wedding-watchers, more and more couples are using the Sand Ceremony- also known as the Unity Sand Ceremony- in their nuptials. Why is this trend becoming so popular? Well, there are several reasons. The sand ceremony has all the sentiment of the unity candle. But the sand ceremony is more practical than the unity candle for outdoor weddings. How many brides and grooms have struggled to light a unity candle wick only to have it repeatedly blown out by the breeze? Another reason this tradition is taking off is because sand ceremonies can involve other people, like children, who will be part of a blended family.

During the ceremony the couple takes turns pouring different colors of sand from small vases into a center vase as the officiant reads a poem or blessing, until all of the sand is in the center vase. This symbolizes a union-- two becoming one. In some instances, children are allowed to take part by reciting a line from the reading and pouring sand as well. After the wedding, the finished sand-filled vase can be displayed in your home as a keepsake.
What do you need to pull this off? Not much:

A nice glass vase
2 smaller vases holding colored sand (one will be used by the bride, the other for the groom)
Colored sand to match your theme. Or not.
Rose petals (optional)
A poem, reading or blessing

But she's a Hollywood star and may have many more weddings to repair the damage. And yes, it may seem avant garde right now but what will you think when you see your wedding pictures 5 or 10 years from now. Save yourself the heartache. Today, we've decided to tackle something we hear discussed quite a bit on our message board and several others on the internet. It's suddenly hot question, "Do I have to feed the band or DJ?"
The short answer is this: Not only should you reserve meals for your musicians, but also for your photographer and perhaps a few other vendors as well. In fact, many wedding vendors stipulate in their contracts that meals - and breaks - will be provided. (Just add the vendors into your head count, if you're having a buffet.) Even if it isn't required, it's the right and gracious thing to do. What's more, your vendors are far more likely to do their jobs well if these basic human needs have been met.

Do You NEED To Have Assigned Seating?

Should you assign seats at your wedding reception? Or let guests fend for themselves? It all depends on who you ask. But the prevailing opinion is this: Assign places, but don't micromanage. It's perfectly OK to assign only tables and allow the guests to choose their chairs. Martha Stewart says only the most formal receptions require place cards at each setting.

But, if guests are left to choose their chairs from a whole room of tables, they'll take longer to seat themselves- or may not seat themselves at all until the last minute. You could also be forced to pay for more settings than number of guests because of incomplete tables.

So give it some thought, and take into account guests interests and personalities when you're deciding who will sit where. It will be well worth the effort.

Spring Dress Code for Wedding Guests

Most brides and grooms spend months figuring out the perfect attire for the big day. So, wedding guests should put at least a few minutes of thought into what they're going to wear to the nuptials, as well. But it's not as complicated as you might think.

The good news is that most invitations will designate the dress code. There are four main categories. Any others (like country casual or easy elegance or festive) are made up. They might still be relevant, but for the sake of simplicity most people stick to the four they know for sure. Expert Cynthia Nellis does a pretty good job of fleshing them out. Click HERE for more tips from her.

Among our favorite tips:
1) Don't try to upstage the bride. Why we agree: It won't work, everyone will see what you're trying to do, and it's bad karma.

2) If you have to ask whether it's appropriate, it probably isn't. Why we agree: Clubwear belongs in the club. And since many weddings take place in a church, a wedding is probably not a place to flash bits of skin you wouldn't show at the office.

3) This goes along with number 1. WHYYYYYYY wear white? Why? There are dozens of other colors and shades to choose from. Please tell us why on earth you would choose the day of another woman's wedding to wear white. Yes, your cousin will probably understand that you are a little "extra", but honestly. Unless you own only one dress, just don't do it.

4) If the invitation doesn't specify, it's OK to assume the wedding is semi-formal. Why we agree: Most weddings these days are semi-formal. As Nina Calloway of About.com says, semi-formal means a short dress or pants with a nice shirt for daytime and a cocktail dress for evening.

A Match Made In Halo Heaven

Luckily for us fashion bloggers, some people just have to do things differently. Take the bride and groom from what is being called "The Halo Wedding". Earlier this month, Desirai Labrada and John Henry were pronounced "teammates for life" (Really! They were!) in Orlando, Florida. Their wedding- from accessories to the cake - followed the theme of the video game that brought them together. Does "Simple" Mean Inexpensive?

Martha Stewart has featured many beautiful weddings in the last 6 years. There was one, that was featured 4-5 years ago that stands out n my mind. It was uncomplicated and easy. It took place in a small room, around a long rectangular table. There were only about 10-15 guests. Everything was draped in white. The flowers were simple but beautiful - oranges, yellows and browns. They had a few large wispy arrangements and then smaller arrangements placed elegantly down the center of the table with candles surround. The chairs were covered with white chair covers - which looked to be custom (I didn’t say the wedding was inexpensive). On the back of only the Bride and Groom chairs was an embroidered monogram. The design was effortless and minimalist. It was absolutely brilliant. This wedding was of the most beautiful weddings I have seen featured in a magazine.

When looking at competitors websites, I came across one that said “simple is boring”. Hhmmmm? I don’t agree - or maybe I am too protective of my style and way of life. One of the biggest trends this year is simplicity of design and style. As both men and women are marrying older, they are looking for a more mature look and style that reflects their maturity in life. Couples are looking for something different - different color combinations and textures, but are looking to simplify. Simple A-line dresses are definitely in. Brides are looking for shed the excess fabric so that their true beauty and sophistication shine through. The make -up is getting much lighter (just to enhance the natural beauty that exists) and the veils much more simple – Cage veils exude class.

Many of the brides who contact me mistakenly say that they want something simple. What they really mean is they want to save money. Simple and inexpensive are not synonymous. Simple is timeless. Having an out of this world wedding could soon be a reality. The space company Rocketplane Kistler Japan is teaming up with the wedding planner First Advantage to make it happen. They are currently accepting applications for weddings on the Rocketplane XP. That's right. You'll be able to tie the knot aboard a suborbital spaceplane. The price tag is a cool $2.2 million.

1. Minimalism – couples are starting to cut down and focus on areas that are most important to them. I advise all of my clients to forgo favors. Brides and Grooms do not see what’s left behind. In 99% of cases, the favors are left behind.

2. Green – Many couples are opting to go Green on a number of levels. Some, it cutting out many of the paper products and opting for recycled stationary, others are using sustainable products and serving only organic products. Some are greening only aspects of their weddings and others are greening the entire affair. Couples are increasingly becoming environmentally conscience.

3. Simplicity – Smaller, more intimate wedding parties are in.

4. The cut – The economy affects the wedding industry as well. Brides, Grooms, and parents are moving towards more intimate celebrations. Couples have also postponed or opted for smaller destination weddings. I had a mother of the Bride say to me “ We can afford the lavishly expensive wedding, but because the way the stock market is – that is not how I want to spend money right now”

5. Photojournalism – Not much to say here. As in recent years, couples are shying away from the traditional and opting for something more documentary in style. They are also moving away from the “picture in the frame” style Art Leather album to a modern Magazine type layout.

6. Socially responsible – couples are giving money to charity in lieu of favors. Often times, they choose a charity that is close to their hearts. They are also asking their caterers about the possibilities of packing up food and donating it to others in need. I have had a bride donate her flowers to a hospital. What better way to cheer up patients than a bouquet of perfect white callas!

7. Sophistication – The Bride is choosing a more simple and sophisticated look for her and her Bridesmaids.

8. Tradition – couples are shying away from tradition. They are writing their own vows, cutting out announcements, cutting out bridal party dances, opting not to have bouquet and garter tosses. They really concentrate on making the event reflect them and their personalities.

9. Using friends and family – UGH, I would really advise you not to do this. There is a reason why there are professionals in this industry. I have seen a wedding cake drop to the floor. It’s really not the way to save money.

Yahoo's Ranking of First Dance Songs

We were wondering which songs were popular for first dances at weddings and found a ranking by Yahoo called Most Popular Wedding Songs for the First Dance. Some of the selections are no-brainers. But some of the others, are... I mean, is "On Bended Knee" by Boyz II Men really a wedding song? As I recall the lyrics are something like:

Let's Give Mariska Hargitay A Break

Oh, Mariska.
She's one of my favorite television actresses. She plays the role of Olivia on Law and Order: SUV with sublime toughness and sensitivity. Still, she probably doesn't even know about the confusion she's caused in the fluffy community.

Well, in case you haven't heard, here's what happened: In the current edition of Self Magazine, Hargitay spoke to an interviewer about getting back in shape after having her son. The 44-year-old talks about how important is to keep her energy up so that she can be an active mom. She gives a perfectly healthy outlook on life and body image, and then says, "Everything in moderation. It's not about being fat or thin. I'm a full-figured woman." Yes, yes, and "huh"? I dare someone to call Mariska Hargitay full-figured and mean it. Apparently, judging by the comments HERE and HERE, lots of other people feel the same way. At first blush it must feel a lot like the Whitney-As-Top-Model controversy all over again.

But when I really think about it, everything is relative. In Hollywood, on the red carpet, surrounded by those frighteningly thin chicks from Desperate Housewives, a size 6 is certainly the fuller figure.

Hargitay also has a familial claim to the curvy mantle. Her mother was Jane Mansfield, one of the original bombshells (an O.B.!) as far as Hollywood is concerned. It might make sense for Hargitay to feel like full-figured-ness is in her blood. I don't even know if she feels exactly that way, but certainly the idea of the full-figured woman isn't foreign to her. Anyway, that's my take on it. I'd love to know what you think. If you haven't received an invitation to a Friday wedding yet, you probably will.
Friday weddings are catching on- for good reason! Some wedding planners say Friday may eventually become almost as popular for weddings as Saturday. Imagine that. That might sound far-fetched right now. But think about it- there are some serious advantages to holding your wedding on the last workday of the week.

* Saving money. The biggest advantage to you is the cost savings. Many vendors offer big discounts for Friday weddings. Venues, caterers, and photographers that were out of your price range for Saturday might be right on the mark for Friday. With Saturday being such a popular day for weddings, many vendors HAVE to have a lower price for Friday events to ensure they get business that day.

* Less competition. Let's say you're determined to have a June wedding. With June being the most popular wedding month, the venues you want are booked up for every single weekend. But, wait. Did you ask them about Friday? There's much less competition for weekdays than for weekends.

*A later ceremony. On a Friday, you can have a ceremony later in the afternoon. That would make it easier for your guests to get off work early. In fact, some of them may nott have to leave work early at all.

* Honeymoon preps. If you're going on a honeymoon, having Saturday as an extra day to pack is a huge advantage. (Take it from the girl who had to wake up at 4 ayem to catch a flight to Saint Lucia on a Sunday morning.) Wouldn't it be nice to have an extra day to get ready, open wedding gifts or simply relax before the trip?

* Your guests might appreciate it. With a Friday wedding your guests can sleep in on Saturday morning and still have the rest of their weekend for other things.

Bombshells Everywhere!

What a month it's been already. No matter how much we Bombshells increase public awareness of curvy figures, there are those who just refuse to let go of the old, outdated perceptions.

Take former-model-turned-reality-TV-personality, Janice Dickerson. You may recall that not too long ago, Dickinson had to apologize to Tyra Banks for calling Tyra "fat". Last week she stepped in it once again by adding fuel to her ongoing campaign against plus-sized models. She explained to the Today Show that full-figured girls, no matter how beautiful, don’t belong on the runway.

Then. Last month on MomLogic, a very illogical blogger calling herself "MILF Mommy" (don't get me started, OK?) called herself keeping it real by posting an entry called "Size 12, You're Fat!" You'll have to read the article to get to full nauseating effect. But in short she tells perfectly normal women that their husbands want them to lose weight and that they're just lazy and not doing enough to lose weight. What a crock! Never did she mention that recent studies have shown many women to be completely healthy at sizes SHE believes are unhealthful. Thank goodness "Size 12 Mommy" brought the smackdown.

Girls, don't believe the hype from the naysayers. They're not going to be able to turn the tide back to making the majority of women in this country hate themselves for being normal. The unbelievers are surrounded on all sides. They will be dragged into this century kicking-and-screaming, or they will be left behind.

The Sweetheart Table

You know what the traditional head table looks like. A bride and groom in the center of a long table, flanked by members of the wedding party. On the other hand, sweetheart tables at weddings used to be pretty rare. But things have changed. Sweetheart tables are commonplace nowadays. Besides giving the bride and groom some time alone, it also allows members of the wedding party to sit with their sweethearts, too. Just make sure you get up and mingle with your guests.

Here are some variations:

If two people can't agree on whether to have a head table or a sweetheart table, here are some possible compromises. You can have the sweetheart table set just in front of the head table. Or, if you have a very small wedding party (Maid-Of-Honor and Best Man) you can have 3 or 4 sweetheart tables as shown below.

Don't Toss the Garter Toss!

Ah... the much-maligned garter toss. To some brides this part of the wedding reception may seem unnecessary or even tack-ay. But for guests it's highly-anticipated and a lot of fun to watch. Our opinion is that weddings can't be all rose petals and candlelight. Let your hair down and have some fun! Here are a few reasons NOT to toss the toss.

1) You're already dressed for it. Wedding garters are already part of the bride's ensemble. Even if you don't buy one for yourself, someone is bound to give you one at your wedding shower.

2) It's a chance to thumb your nose at tradition. Hundreds of years ago, garters were worn on both legs to keep a lady's stockings up and symbolized purity because the groom would remove them -presumably for the first time- on the wedding night. He would then toss the garters into the waiting crowd and everyone would clamor for them believing them to be good luck. Now, as a modern woman, you get to change this around and do it your way. My husband removed mine with his teeth. So much for creating an air of chastity.

Down That Aisle In Style: Charmein Canton

If you haven't heard of her yet, you will. New York wedding consultant Charmein Canton is the author of several novels and more recently, Down That Aisle In Style: A Wedding Guide for Full-Figured Women. I had the pleasure of chatting with her this week and she filled me in on some of the top wedding trends for plus-size and full-figured brides.

"One of the biggest things I've seen in the last couple of years is the prominence of strapless gowns. For many years it was all about covering up arms, now they are up front and center." Canton also said, "Another thing is the assymetrical waist, which I love. A lot of women are very self conscious about their tummies and shy away from anything they think will draw attention to it. An assymetrical waist actually helps de-emphasize while making your waist appear smaller. It's almost like magic."

She also says she rejects the idea that full-figured women can't wear sleek, sexy styles. "A fit-and-flare, or mermaid, style gown on a woman of generous proportions can be drop dead sexy. My advice to to slip one on and see how you feel."

Canton says some of her favorite designers and labels are Oscar de la Renta, Romona Keveza, Christina Herrera, IGIGI , Abby Z.

One of today's popular wedding trends is serving special "signature" cocktails at the reception. But how do you make your libations stand out AND go along with your wedding theme? Fortunately, lots of people are happy to help you come up with some selection.

Check out the lovely Rose Petal Martini found at TheNibble.com:

Ingredients:
1-1/2 shots gin
1/2 cup lychee juice
Rose petal for garnish

What about the Blue Fin mixed by CocktailTimes.com:

Ingredients:
2 oz vodka
1/4 oz freshly squeezed lemon juice
1/2 oz HPNOTIQ liqueur
1 oz white cranberry juice
Garnish with lemon peel

Only ONE Guest Per Invite?

With the economy down and food prices up, brides-to-be are doing everything they can to keep reception costs down. Cutting costs at the reception usually means keeping the number of guests down. Afterall, you're really just paying for everyone's dinner (and sometimes drinks). So is it OK to tell your single guests they can't bring a date? I've seen that simple question cause terrible arguments. The New York Times tried to work out this hot button issue last year. What it comes down to is that for the guest, it means having to come to the wedding as a "lone wolf". But for the bride and groom, it means potentially paying to feed strangers.

Bird Poop Facial

The things some brides-to-be put themselves through to be flawless for their weddings. Trust me, I completely understand. Sure, the wedding is only one day but pictures are forever.

However. Some so-called beauty treatments are enough to stop you dead in your tracks. Take the new "Geisha Facial" offered by the Shizuka Spa in New York City. Well, Geisha must mean "bird poop" because a main ingredient in this facial is Nightingale droppings. No kidding. Some of us might turn up our noses (I know I am) but the salon says Geisha and kabuki actors once used the secret mixture to achieve clear, unblemished complexions. Check out Shizuka's website if you're, um, interested. The poop is $180 a pop.

Trends for Wedding Invitations

The first glimpse of what you have planned for your guests is communicated through the invitation. Recipients of your invitation will automatically be drawn to the contents of such by the color, texture and even the lettering. Now that you have a captive audience, give them something to be excited about.
Just how do you select the proper invitations for your celebration? Simple. It should reflect the style and sophistication of the event. If you want to try something new, consider the following:

1. Out of shape. The hostess with the most-est is always looks for ways to be original. Long gone are the days of the standard rectangular invite. Invitations are available round, square, folded, tri-fold, oblong, oversized; any shape you can imagine. Gaining in popularity these days are the tea length cards which are rectangular in shape and the regal squares (8”x8”).

2. Paper-less. If the thought of a paper invitation, no matter the shape still doesn’t tickle your fancy, go for an invite created out of another material. You can have your invitation etched into an acrylic block (similar to the look of a paper weight), embroidered onto a piece of fabric that can be mailed as a scroll, carved into a piece of wood or select a prop from your theme and use that for your invite. Still don’t see it? For Ryan’s upcoming birthday party have miniature basketballs personalized with the details of the sports themed-event and send those out in lieu of the traditional paper invites. Warning, the more creative you are the more excited guests will be, resulting in perfect attendance for your event.

3. Make a Fashion Statement. Belts, bows, bands, buttons and buckles aren’t just for clothing anymore. Add any of these embellishments to invitations and change the look completely. Simple styles are transformed when paired with these accessories.
Pouchettes, not to be confused with the poncho is a wrap that covers the invitation usually forming two or four semi-circles making for a dramatic presentation to guests. Or have the details of your event imprinted directly on to the pouchette for simplicity with a luxe look.
For a formal affair put invitations into a jackets or purses. You can find them in silk dupioni, peau d’soie, satin or organza. Not to be outdone by the invites, guests will be flocking to their favorite boutiques in preparation for your fete.

4. Bursts of color. Color options are no longer limited to white or ecru. Color palettes for stationery are mimicking those on the runway. What’s exciting on the color wheel now? Vibrant reds, rich cocoa blends and sparkling metallics.

I’ve never written or read a “blog” but my husband keeps telling me to step into the 21st century so here I am taking a baby step. Hi, my name is Sabrina, I am a Wedding Consultant and a first-time blogger.

I wanted to start with something that I am often asked about and every bride goes through: wedding stress. How can a bride plan a stress-free wedding? I can answer that with four words: Hire a Wedding Planner! Did you really expect me to say anything else? Truthfully, that is the best way but for couples who can not afford or do not want to hire a Wedding Consultant. I'll give some tips:

Unite and let the planning begin

The most important thing is for the couple to be on the same page about their vision for the wedding, who they want to participate and if they are going to accept family contributions. Once a couple is on the same page, planning can officially begin!

Sources of stress

What’s the greatest source of stress for couples? Family and friends who have “wonderful” suggestions and/or demands. You will hear many say, “it’s your wedding so you have the right to do as you wish,” but if family is contributing monetarily they have the right to “suggest” and/or “demand” certain things. Why? Because they have given you money! It’s best to be clear that any contributions are “gifts of love” to be used as needed for the wedding. If that’s not clear or if they don’t agree, be prepared for the occasional demand or suggestion. How do you deal with those requests? Ideally, you may want to compromise and figure out a solution that makes all parties happy. If compromising is not an option, then you should consider paying for everything yourselves. You are about to take the biggest step an adult can take so why not pay for it, instead of waiting for mommy and daddy to do it.

Always a bridesmaid and never a bride

Remember that saying because someone who has never planned a wedding has no idea what goes into planning one. Bridal attendants will also offer up wonderful ideas. The best way to deal with them is be firm. Let them know you welcome some ideas but you will have final say about most things. You will be reasonable with your requests but, at the end of the day, it’s your wedding and your vision.

The love of your life

Wedding planning can test a relationship. Most men just want to show up. They want to be told where, when and what time. Some do like to have a say in their attire and whether or not there will be an open bar but that’s about the extent of their interest. Don’t try to make him get involved. He has no idea about different shades of peach (it’s all pink to him), what a Save-the-Date is, the difference between thermography or engraved invitations or what a charger is and why the color matters. If you run something past him and he doesn’t become excited, don’t take it personal. You would probably have the same reaction if he discussed cars with you. They just want to get married and don’t really care about all the details.

Juggling work, children, and school

The best way to juggle life and wedding planning is to make lists and prioritize accordingly. As things are complete cross them off the list, try to focus on only a few things at a time. The more your mind has to juggle the more stressed you become. Lists will keep you focused, remember what has been done and what's left to complete.

Your wedding is only important to you. It consumes your day and your thoughts. Yes, family and friends will be excited but they will not be as excited until the day becomes closer. A year or more out and they feel you have plenty of time to plan. They will not understand the urgency you feel to book vendors or get answer to your questions. There are many other things that can bring about wedding stress but these are the normal things brides deal with often and have mini breakdowns over.

Wedding Trend Watch

It's stunning how fast trends can change in the wedding industry and in fashion overall. Thank goodness we're patched in to wedding experts who keep us informed and on our toes. One of those experts is Vicky Johnson, the owner of Holy Matrimony. She tells us to be on the lookout for all-out glamour this wedding season.

"Hollywood Glam is currently very hot. Clean lines in the construction of gown and fine fabrics. Heavy embellishments focused on one area of the gown leaving the remainder of the gown simple but classic. Gowns will be less fussy with fewer complicated folds and rouching", says Johnson.

She also says that while brides-to-be are following the trends, they're not following a lot of rules. A lot of the finer details that might have seemed like requirements in the past are being scaled back or dropped altogether. But she says there's nothing wrong with that. "Today's weddings are different and exemplify more of the couple's personality," Johnson says. One of the examples she cites: wedding favors, which are taking on a more personal tone and getting more in line with the theme of the entire wedding day. Johnson says she's seeing green or environmentally-friendly favors as well as charitable donations in the guest's honor.

Brides have always added cultural touches to their weddings. But that idea is going through some changes as well. "Cultural is taking a turn to family-specific", Johnson says. "We are seeing more and more couples share things done in their own families with their larger group of friends and co workers. "

Jill Scott Engaged Drummer

Wedding Bells are in Jill Scott's future. The sultry singer announced this week she's engaged to her drummer, John Roberts (also known as Lil Jon). Some New York City fans got to hear the news a few days early, though. We're told that toward the end of Jill's JVC Jazz Festival concert at Carnegie Hall last Friday, John presented Jill with a bouquet off roses and gave her a long kiss. That's when she reportedly turned and said to the audience, "Ain't life funny? We're engaged." Woo hoo!
You'll recall Jilly from Philly ended her five-year marriage to Lyzel Williams last year. But we just knew ths gem wouldn't stay on the market for long, didn't we?

We've all known a bride-to-be who is dieting like crazy in an effort to lose weight before the wedding. Heck, some of us newlyweds have been that girl.
